Alek is very doubtful because it says that "if Alek crashed the walker, the worst bruises might fade before the princess Sophie returned"(11). This shows that Alek is doubtful because he has already thought that he was going to crash, before he even gets into the Stormwalker. He even starts to think about all the bruises he will get. This also shows that he is not very optimistic. He shouldn't be because first, he is with crew of 5 experienced men, and second, he has also riden something (though smaller)similar to controls of the Stormwalker.
